First One’s the Devil

(Or, New Age Mind F***)

OK, so you’ve been praying for… a new job, clarity about where to call home,  a partner… and along comes said ‘thing.’  Sort of. It’s pretty good, not perfect, but good.  The little niggling feeling in your tummy, or the mild anxiety, or mild uneasiness must be… self-sabotage, not recognizing a good thing when you see it, general inability to compromise…

Right?!

Very often, the first ‘thing’ is the Devil…maybe we could call it God’s little test.

Did you really want exactly that? Aren’t you willing to compromise* ?

Ask the voices in your head, or on your journal page.

Because most of us carry so many layers of cultural conditioning, we convince ourselves that good enough must be “it.”  We convince ourselves that what we truly long for is too high a bar.  Compromise starts to make more sense… (and compromise does make sense in a lot of contexts – but this is our inner-world context, and here compromise rarely serves us.  The “Others’ we are compromising with here are often internalized voices of culture, family and society – which are not always voices of health or support.)

The good news is that either way, you are likely to get where you pointed your compass.

The less good news is that you may get there with a few more break-ups or challenges than you had envisioned… And with a little less trust in your own instincts and movements. Which is the issue  I am addressing here.

Did you really want exactly that? Aren't you willing to compromise?

Not listening to our bodies’ messages has a price—the un-well world we live in has been created by each of us overriding our own knowing and instinct again and again for generations… another devil.

We each can do something about this override, starting now — Stop. Listen. Listen deeper. Then act. (Or don’t, if that’s the guidance).

Let the small cues become your compass points. Let your inner knowing do its job and guide you. Give the little sensations that say no or yes or wait  a place at your table.

Trust the inner voice that says “something isn’t quite right.” Stick with yourself and your process until this clarifies — the sticking around is clarification: it means NO (or yes). Do not let bosses, partners, unreasonable timelines or your own inner voices rush you.  Do not let your own thought process, (AKA chewing on your own tail) confuse you — wisdom is steady and deep, but it’s also subtle, and asks for attention and time to fully reveal itself.

You seek truth and harmony and the road to this is integrity with yourself.

You want what you want, you need what you need, don’t negotiate with the Devil — it really doesn’t have your best interests in mind.

*It’s been said that good intentions pave the way to Hell, I say, no, overuse of compromise as a false peacekeeping tool is paving the way to Hell.
