What is real?
What matters?
What can I do or say that can make a difference? How can I at least create meaning for myself, or maybe someone else, in this unpredictable time?
This seem to be the theme song for so many of us right now.
My thoughts?
Find a way, under the outrage and fear, to the grief. It doesn’t matter what you are grieving… there’s something dying around you that could use your attention.
Immerse yourself in what IS real — beauty, nature, friendships, family — this is the tether to Life, to priorities, and the fuel for your actions. Whatever your actions might be, do something. And yes, speak up, resist all of. . . that. But also get exercise, go outside, cook healthy food, see friends, sing, dance, laugh.
I do not care whether you like AOC or RFK, whether you think the aliens are coming or your neighbors are robots, this is a time to act, to step away from apathy and ambivalence and participate. With breakdown comes chaos, and after chaos comes order. Let’s set ourselves up for a new order that reinstates what is simple and true: our shared humanity, kindness, and awareness that tending a world beyond our own individual desires is the most important thing.
In the small ocean town where I spend part of my life, I have been floored by the conversations in line at the farm stand, on the square dancing floor, in the bookstore… Under the horror, or whatever we are seeing or experiencing, something else is happening… people are weaving together, prioritizing simpler things, seeking alliances… non-political ones. Attend to that.
As Tammy, who runs the farmstand, said last Saturday, “just learn 3 things. If we all learn 3 things we’ll be able to take care of each other when the time comes…”
What are your 3 things? Learn 3 more. This is action, this matters. So does speaking up and out, so does disagreeing kindly with someone you care about, so does asking questions and truly wanting to know the answer.
Caring, acting, connecting, staying curious, resting more, and taking time each day to determine what’s the most important thing, well, that’s what I’m up to. How about you?
My groups are in full swing, so sweet and rich and deep. My next event has crept up on me.It’s next Saturday the 8th and is called – CONTAINMENT: holding ourselves back so we can bring the best of ourselves forward.
Please let me know if you plan to come.
