Book Review: The Gift – How The Creative Spirit Transforms The World By Lewis Hyde

This month I am sharing a review of The Gift How the creative Spirit Transforms the World by Lewis Hyde. Perfect timing as every book is, illuminating and clarifying the power of the gift, this book contributed powerfully to my own understanding of what we are calling The Gift Economy and the core value of generosity. It is clearer than ever to me that reclaiming “gift” as a core cultural act can transform culture. It

The End of “Normal”–Now What?

As I sit, day by day with people, I hear and feel the anxiety, the depression, the hopelessness, the fear; the way you know there’s no more normal or place to go back to in your old life and then we work with how your own lives are reflecting this larger malaise…and inevitably we talk about COVID, we read about COVID, we rant about COVID… I am going a little bit farther out on a

Since the Inception of COVID-19…

I have marveled at and struggled with words or explanation for what I think I am observing. Hard times bring out either the best or the worst in humanity and with love and respect to us each and all I need to say that I am not impressed with us as a whole– as the months, now year plus has passed, the main thing I want to say is: I am scared for us.

Book Review: The Power of Discord by Claudia Gold and Edward Tronick

This research-filled and rich-with-anecdotal evidence book illuminates one of my favorite beliefs, that leaning towards conflict and allowing discord makes for stronger.

In the extensive “still-face” research they present, it is easy to see how the pull backs we so often do in relationship under stress is NOT NEUTRAL, it feels so to the actor but creates a significant stress response in the person receiving the non-neutral neutrality that we offer each other under stress. Understanding how we create the negative dynamics with our most beloved people and how to shift this is all in here.

Learning The Language Of Repair

We are all in kindergarten regarding the necessary paradigm shifts we are feeling coming, knowing are necessary, maybe working towards. Our culture is built upon non-accountability and this is deeply embedded in every aspect of how we function as a nation and as a collective. The disconnect and forgotten history of violence and oppression between us as humans has led us into the sicknesses of racism and genocide, and hierarchies such as white supremacy and extreme capitalist values. This even deludes us that we can “own” land and forests, waters and ecosystems and do with them as we please.
The language of repair can be learned, it is very very simple, but it is also not easy. Here is the “secret”…
